This unusual little jar is from Henan Province, folk ware, 13th century. It has a smooth black glaze thinning to brown over the vertical ribs which have been constructed with underglaze slip. In Chinese, this shape of jar is called Gualing Guan, meaning a jar that has the ribs like melon.The rounded shoulders rising to a short cylindrical neck with double flattened rims. An unique feature of this jar is the stamped impression of a flower on the base. H: 10.2 cm, Dia: 12.4 cm Condition: Good. Minor age ware at the rim. No chips or repairs.
