Very rare Henro pilgrim jacket with hakama. Henro pilgrims would walk and visit 88 main shrines and temples , asociated with Kukai teachings in Shikoku island. It will take almost 2 months for aruki-henro, walking pilgrim to complete the jorney. To protect and invoke auspiciousness during pilgrimage they would stamp jackets with protective deities images as well and write buddhist sutra invokations on it. Each visited shrine would stamp the jacket as the evidence of visit . However stamping was not always a necesarry part of the rituals and was done time to time only. Size: full adult size Age: early 20 th century Material: linen with stamped and handwritten symbols and sutras
