The practical miner's guide; comprising a set of trigonometrically tables, adapted to all the purposes of oblique or diagonal, vertical, horizontal and traverse dialing London: Longman, Brown, Green, and Longmans, 1845 Second edition Second edition, considerably enlarged (first was in 1825). Octavo, original brown cloth decorated in blind, spine gilt lettered. pp (xvi), 218, (2), 32 (31 March, 1845, publisher's catalogue) + frontispiece portrait with tissue guard. Tables and diagrams in text. Spine very lightly sunned, with a one inch cloth split at top rear joint neatly repaired; tidy owner name at front; else a fine copy. The title page continues "with their application to the dial exercise of shafts, adits, drifts, lodes, slides, leveling, inaccessible distances, heights, &c. Also a treatise on the art and practice of assaying silver, copper, lead, and tin, with tables which exhibit at one view the value of assayed ores: rules for calculating the power of steam and water engines: a discourse on the quality, manufacture, and choice of cordage for mine service; together with a collection of essential tables, rules, and illustrations, exclusively applicable to mining business.
