J J Harper: 1832. 2 volumes in one. Each is complete with original endpapers and title page. New leather binding minimal Foxing, VG+ tightly bound condition. No markings or tears.
2nd American edition, 1st was from Phildelphia, 2 Tle. in 1 Bd. From the sixth London edition revised, corrected, and enlarged. With numerous notes and additions by David Meredith Reese. (2 Bl. Anz.), 489 S. - 510 S. Ldr. d. Zt. (etwas berieben und stärker fleckig). Vgl. Wellcome II, 389 (andere Auflagen) und Garrison/Morton 5585 (zur Ausg. 1809): 'His great dictionary went through seven editions during his lifetime and was translated into French, German and Italian.' - Seltener gewordener Klassiker unter den medizinischen Wörterbüchern. 'The dictionary became Cooper's most wellknown work. Many of the entries were lengthy and Cooper took special care to refer to other works which could provide additional information on a paritcular topic' (Heirs of Hippocrates (1990) 1359 zur Ausg. Philadelphia 1810). - Samuel Cooper (1780-1848) wurde 1803 Member des R. C. S., 1813 trat er in die Armee ein und diente bei Waterloo, 1827 wurde er Mitglied des Council des R. C. S., ab 1845 dessen Prädident, von 1831-48 wirkte er als Surgeon am University Coll. Hosp. und wurde 1848 Fellow der Royal Society. Er gewann den Jacksonian-Preis und beschäftigte sich mit der Reform des med. Unterrichts. - Meist etwas stockfleckig.
