This is a wonderful antique level. This was originally an adjustable spirit level that could be used at any angle. There is still liquid in the level balance area although it is quite difficult to see. Made of cast iron, this is an intricate example of superior workmanship from days gone by. There is a patent date of September 17, 1867 as well as a number that I cannot make out. Manufacturer: Davis Level and Tool Co. Measurements: 12" in length, 2 1/4" in height Condition: There is rust and dust on places on the cast iron which was originally painted black and it looks as if the screws that hold the center balance area have been opened and possibly replaced. Also it is possible that the center parts of the cast iron on each side of the level have been broken off and the arrow for the dial is missing. That being said, this is in fair to good condition with wonderful decorative appeal. |
