Early 19th Century Chinese Cloisonne Pillow Box
This early 19th Century Chinese pillow box is beyond belief, it is one of the best examples of cloisonne art you will ever see. The pillow box was traditonally used for a womans wedding night to hold her dowry. The light blue color of enamel found in the background of this cloisonne box was popularized by the first female emperess of China. A peacock and rose landscape adorn the top. There is a yellow and brown lotus leaf motif found on the base. The handles are brass guilt, and overall shape is scalloped. The inside refects the same background color blue found thoughtout the box. This box is very large, it measures 15" in diameter with handles 18" and 6 1/2" deep. Its conditon is near mint, and is of museum quality.
