This 9" t. ceramic sculpture is by the Cleveland School artist Emilie Scrivens, who began an intensive study of pottery, sculpture, and mold-making as a WPA artist in the Federal Art Project of Cleveland, under Edris Eckhardt. Over time, her skills improved sufficiently that she won awards from the annual May Show of the Cleveland Museum of Art.

This extremely rare 10.75" plate was thrown on a potter's wheel and hand-decorated by Lawrence Blazey in 1934. Blazey studied pottery seriously for the first time only after Cowan Pottery closed in 1931, after which time Russell Barnett Aitken and Harold Hunsicker inherited Cowan's wheel and set up shop as the Pottery Workshop (a few years later).
