This great 9" t. figurine is a 1930s or 1940s design by the renowned Mississippi artist Walter Inglis Anderson. The Shearwater Pottery is family-owned and -operated, since 1928, and the WIA designs are still in production, made from molds and individually hand-decorated.
"Frog Prince" is derived from a beloved fairytale, about the princess who kissed the frog and found her prince. It is one of the larger of the hard-to-locate fairytale figurines by Shearwater.
The bottom is marked with a partial round SHEARWATER inkstamp. This example was made in 2008. I'm downsizing my collection, or would not have this piece available for sale.
No nicks, chips, hairlines, or repairs. Exceptional condition! Perfect for the collector of southern art pottery like George Ohr, Newcomb College, and so on.
