About 6.75" t. x 8.5" x 4.5" ceramic sculpture, with a terra-cotta red clay body.
This unusual and decorative piece is unique (that is, one of a kind) and was designed and hand-modeled by Cowan Pottery alumnus and graduate of the Cleveland School (now Institute) of Art Paul Bogatay.
The glaze is partly applied over the top portion of the figure, allowing the clay to show through a bit near the underside and on the feet. Comical, hand-carved facial features.
Paul Bogatay was a professor of ceramic design for many years at Ohio State University. His story can easily be located on the internet, and he won many prizes during his lifetime, but his unique ceramic works are quite rare today.
Excellent condition, with no issues whatsoever to report. Hand-incised Bogatay and 1947.
