This auction consists of a well-worn but scarce (partial) December 1914 issue of Gustav Stickley's CRAFTSMAN Magazine. Someone has removed the Arthur Rackham illustrated article on fairies, and the back cover is also missing. But there is still plenty of interest left!
Illustrated full-page advertisements include Saxon Motor Company, Detroit automobile; American Thermos Bottle Company; Gustav Stickley, The Craftsman (MANY); Flexible Flyer (child's sled); E. C. Simmons Keen Kutter knives and tool cabinets; Western Electric; Globe-Wernicke oak sectional (stack) bookcase; Charles P. Limbert Co.; and others. Smaller ads can also be found from Galloway Pottery; Stillwell-California Bungalows; Lenox Porcelain; Rookwood Faience tile; Sonora Phonograph; and others.
Pottery lovers will be interested in an article on American art pottery for use in interior decoration. The illustrations feature a Grueby tile fireplace surround; a Grueby iris motif tile panel for a bathroom in a home in California; a Grueby tile atrium for a home in Montreal, Canada; a Rookwood faience fireplace top with water babies, fish, and seaweed; and various vases by Fulper and Rookwood. There is a fascinating group of Lenox pieces shown in the "Austrian secessionist" style too! Other companies, some obscure, are also mentioned.
Another article by G. Stickley illustrates how to build a rustic cabin and separate playhouse, and is accompanied by Stickley's own drawings.
