This beautiful 6.5" t. handmade porcelain vase is the work of Karen Thuesen Massaro, whose website can be found at www.karentmassaro.com. There, in her artist statement, she writes,
"I make poems for the eye and the hand. Composite arrangements of forms support fired layers of color. Most of my sculptures have remained intimate in scale, and nod to the tactile and visual potential of clay surfaces. The current forms display new geometries that stem from organic shapes of previous work."
This organic/biomorphic vessel probably dates to the 1980s. It has a mottled matte glaze in shades of brown and pale yellow, with some flashes of turquoise blue and a white interior.
