A little about us...
Now in downtown Thomasville, within walking distance of some of the city's best restaurants, is Sally Rude Antiques and Fine Art Gallery. Sally has a vibrant shop filled with an eclectic mixture of 18th, 19th and 20th century furnishings, art, hard to find accessories and fabulous jewelry. New items are not sold here (with the notable exception of plate hangers that don't break your plates and the old, original, Claire Burke Vapourri, and the latest in fine and costume jewelry). On any given visit you can expect to see sold tags on various items because when Sally returns from a buying trip, the turnover can be brisk. But don't despair, many of those sold items were purchased with a specific customer in mind, as Sally travels with samples of wallpaper, fabrics, even sketches her customers have brought to her of that special piece they seek. In addition, Sally keeps an extensive file of customer needs and you can count on a phone call or a note to let you know when something you're looking for comes in.
What Sally sells is good American, English and European antiques, great paintings, wonderful accessories, all of which are artfully arranged, fairly priced, in excellent condition, and ready to take home. What we specialize in at Toscoga is Southern Hospitality. If we don't already know you, we will the next time you visit. You will be welcomed warmly, assisted ably, and invited to come again...and you can bring your dog. We hope you enjoy this sampling in our catalog of the items we carry in our shop, and we thank you for visiting!
Our Manifesto
(...well, okay, it's not really ours, it's Jonathan Adler's, but we could have written it...)
We believe that your home should make you happy.
We believe minimalism is a bummer.
We believe tassels are the earrings of the home.
We believe in our muses: David Hicks, Alexander Girard, Yves Saint Laurent.
We believe in the innate chicness of red with brown.
We believe celebrities should pay full price.
We believe in Aid to Artisans.
We believe dogs should be allowed in stores and restaurants.
We believe in Palm Beach style:
Louis chairs, chinoiserie, Lilly Pulitzer, The Breakers circa '72.
We believe in mantiques: worn chesterfield sofas, heraldic tapestries.
We believe colors can't clash.
We believe our lamps will make you look younger and thinner.
We believe in irreverent luxury. Thank you. (curtsey)
