| This pair of ginger jar shaped stoneware vessels are actually antique Copenhagen Snuff jars. I liked the form and the deep ivory color of the jars, and also the way the glaze has crackled, and I assumed that they were Asian. I later discovered the impressed mark on the side of each jar, which is really only discernible on one of the jars, which reads "Copenhagen Snuff, Weyman & Bro, Pittsburg, Pa.". George Weyman founded Copenhagen Snuff in 1822, and these jars were in use from 1870 to 1905. Interesting. One jar is 6" tall and the other is 6.25" tall. Other than that they are alike and can be used as a pair. I pictured them with one on a stand, which is the way I would display them (but the stand is not included). I pictured the hairline at the top of each jar also. One is in the glaze and doesn't go through. The other does show through on the inside, but is tight and should not be an issue. This one also has the chip, which is pictured. | |||||||
