|This is a delightful small painting of a Caribbean or West Indian young black woman, balancing a basket of fruit on her head. Her clothes are fabulous red and pink dots and stripes on white, with a matching scarf around her head, and a blue sash around her waist. She has dangly earrings and bracelets. She is very beautiful, and her pose suggests she knows it. It is well painted, slightly primitive, and signed F. Delmas in the lower right corner. I believe it was painted in the 1920-30's time period. There is a French painter named Francoise Delmas from that period, but I do not know if it is the same person. The painting is 10.5" by 8". In the frame it measures approximately 13" by 10.5". The condition is very fine. There is a small dot of silver colored paint in the lower left corner that I have not tried to remove. I have not cleaned it because I like the effect as is, but someone may wish to do that at some point.|
