18th Century Looking Glass Frame
This is a very early frame, probably of English origin. It is entirely hand carved to crudely resemble, I believe, a Queen Anne mirror of the early 18th century. It is, in my opinion, a country piece of that period. The wood appears to be mahogany or mahogany veneer. The frame contains an old mirror but not of the period. The dimensions of the frame, as taken from the outside, are 33"by 17" approximately. The inside dimensions are 17.5" by 11.5" approximately. The condition is quite good given the age of the piece, although some early repairs do exist...an "ear" glued back on, for example, but look at the enlargements so nothing is missed. This is an interesting early piece with a stark sort of beauty I think.
