|This is wonderfully unique piece, made during the late Victorian period, when the fondness of all things oriental was at it's peak. The Japanese influence is seen in the fan design of the pediment. There are 3 fans there, 2 that are carved and superimposed on one another, and one is incised and picked out in gold leaf. The sides are painted designs of birds and flowers, some of which is highlighted in gold leaf, and the drawer is done in the same way. The front has reeded pilasters, a glass door and, as I mentioned, a drawer. It stands on bun feet. The finish and paint is all original, and the condition is good. There has been a repair to the bottom right of the door. The dimensions are approximately 38" across, 94" high and 20" deep. It breaks down for moving or shipping. English, circa 1890.
