|This is a fabulous little painting of a parade, dated December 14th, 1918. The painting commemorates the beginning of the Paris Peace Conference, which started within a few days of that date. It is also the date that President Woodrow Wilson arrived in Paris for the peace talks. The painting is in it's original frame which, apparently, was gilded. The wonderful color that remains, along with traces of gilt, is the red bole that was underneath the gilding. There is separation in the corners of the frame visible from the front, and traces of gilt, gesso and wood. The painting is heavily varnished and may have yellowed some with time. These points I mention for the sake of clarity only because I think the look is so wonderful that I wouldn't change a thing. The overall size is 8.5" by 10.5", the painting is 4.5" by 6.75" as measured in the frame.|
