| These miniature portraits are interesting because they represent three members of a family, and come with a little family history as well. The enlargements include pictures of what is written on the back of each frame, which identifies the person in the portrait, and their relationship to the others, and a little information about them. Briefly, they are Elizabeth Ward Boon, born in 1801; Mr. Barlow, whom she married in 1825 in London; and her Mother, Mrs. John Boon, who accompanied her daughter to America after Mr. Barlow died in 1829, and is said to be related to Daniel Boone. The portraits are painted on ivory and are very finely executed, particularly the gentleman, and were painted in 1825 in London, England. The condition is very good, and a notation on the back of each states that they were cleaned and repaired in 1975. I have not removed them from the frame, but will add these points about condition: the ivory is cupping slightly on two of the paintings, the lacquer frames show crackling, and there are some small losses to the lacquer around the gilt metal frame of one portrait. The size of each is approximately 5" by 4.75". Please look at the enlargements for further information. | |||||||||
