Rare Old Florida Palm Frond Stand, All Original
This is a rare piece even for a Floridian. This fanciful stand is made entirely of palm fronds and dates between 1900-1930. African Americans made these and sold them out of the backs of their trucks as they traveled the countryside, seasides and resort towns of Florida, much the way the Highwaymen did later. This is our own native furniture, and Old Florida folk art rolled into one. The palm frond furniture was made up into the 50's for motels and beachside homes, and have been reproduced in recent years as furniture for fine beach homes in Seaside and other places along the Gulf coast. The pieces I've seen are sturdy, wonderful looking and will obviously last forever, as this little stand testifies to. This little stand has a wonderful old surface, entirely original, and is just a work of art. The dimensions are 17" by 9" by 20" high.
