Charming and Unusual Majolica Bottle
This is a wonderful piece of majolica or faience, a bottle shaped like a head of lettuce. The colors are beautiful and realistic. It has a cork stopper that is wedged quite tightly in the top. Something that sounds like cork is rattling around inside the bottle, but I have not wanted to disturb the present cork (you know how old dry cork can be), so I haven't investigated further. The bottle stands about 7.5" high and is about 4" at the widest point at the bottom. It is marked Italy, 06534, and has a US patent number. It has some age, but the bottle is probably no earlier than about 1960 I would say. It really is nice enough to fit right in with your best majolica, and it is in excellent condition with only a little wear around the rim.
