| This is a fine early oak English box, circa 1840, exquisitely carved on all sides and the top. The sides and back are carved in Gothic revival arches. The centerpiece of the box is a finely carved falcon head upon a cypher. The back has a carved cypher. The interior is slotted for correspondence and one divider is missing. The interior of the has an old paper seal that has a crest and the name Robert ?? Wilmot, and Hardesden Hall, Derby. The finish is original and there are a few nicks to the corners and a very old repair. The shape is trapezoid but roughly the size is 16" by 10" by 10". Please look at all the pictures for details of the box. Thank you. | ||
