| Here we have a gorgeous lamp of carved stone, often referred to as jade (it isn't). It is carved in a bird and flower and vine motif, urn shaped with handles on the side (however the handle on the left is missing). The metal filigree band has a beaded edge that conforms to the shape of the carving. The top and the band lift off to access a small bulb socket in the interior, so the lamp is lit from the inside as well as from the bulb at the top. It is built up on a tiered stand, the bottom being made of gilt metal, the top stand being carved wood. The lamp has a new silk shade and a jade finial that is sort of fan shaped. The lamp measures 26" to the top of the finial. It dates to about 1930. Other than the missing handle to the urn (it is common to find a nick or a loss in these lamps), it is in fine condition. It is a beautiful and elegant lamp and has such wonderful color. | |||||||
