| Offered here is a good, early portrait on tin of a gentleman in fine clothes. I believe it is American, circa 1840. It is framed in a thin wood frame that fits well, but is probably somewhat later. The painting measures approximately 8" by 10". It is in good condition considering it's age. There is paint loss mostly on the edges and a sprinkling of small paint losses in the area of the clothing. Someone wrote "To Bill" on the back with magic marker. The painting could be cleaned, I suppose, and the detail in the coat would be more apparent. The face is done well with highlights in the right places, and the eyes have that direct gaze that follows you. A very interesting, early piece. | ||||||||
