|First let me say that photos, truly, do not do this chair justice. The colors and patina are absolutely wonderful and, try as I did, I was unable to show it accurately. This wonderful fauteuil, in original paint, is a faded red coral color with gilt edges. The upholstery, though not original, is perfectly suited to the chair in a Fortuny style print of shaded coral on khaki. The carved back piece is in the form of a hot air balloon. The wear is perfection. Gesso shows through small chips on the edges, the hand grips are worn to the wood, and grime collected in all the appropriate crevices (germ phobes need not apply). There are a few spot on the upholstery which, although I wish they were not there, do not unduly detract. Remarkably, the chair is very sturdy and the joints are tight. This chair came from the famous old W. J. Sloane store on Fifth Av. NYC, mid 20th century. 23" across in the front, 21" across at the arms, approximately 18" high at the seat and 38" to the top of the back.|
