| Offered here is a matching pair of early 20th century gilt wood and gesso mirrors with lovely detailing and a beautiful finish. The frames measure 19.5" by 23.5" on the outside. The interior measurement is 16" by 20". The frames have a foliage motif over a column. The red bole shows through in some of the high spots and the light chalky substance fills the low spots. The corners are continuous, meaning the design continues around the corners without without revealing the mitered corner underneath. It is a feature of a better frame. Each mirror is signed J.F. Newcomb Co. on a sticker affixed to the back of the frame. I have a picture of it in the listing. They were out of NYC, founded in 1832, but these frames were probably made in the 30's or 40's. I wondered if they were connected in some way to the Newcomb-Macklin frame makers, but there is almost no information about this Newcomb on the internet, and inquiries have produced no results. These are beautiful, well made frames in excellent condition. I am selling and pricing them individually. | |||||||||
