|This is a lovely yew wood box with satinwood inlay, reptile embossed leather interior, and a small painting set into the top by listed, contemporary French artist, Anne Boille. The technique she uses is called "fixing under glass", which originates from paintings carried out on paper or fabric and covered by glass before drying. But the technique itself of painting on glass was created during Renaissance in Murano, where glassworkers painted reproductions of ex-votos or biblical subjects on snippets of glass. Having received one of these under-glass-paintings as a present, Anne Boille discovered her passion for this strange technique and is today one of the very few artists to bring it to life again. You can see the signature in the lower left corner of the painting. Her work has been exhibited and is in collections all over Europe and in the US. The box measures 9.5" by 7" by 2 5/8" and is in excellent condition.|
