| Offered here is one of two fine 19th century watercolor paintings by George Stanfield Walters (1838-1924). It depicts sailing ships along a coastline. The image is approximately 19" by 13". The paintings are framed and matted and have not been examined outside of the frame. I think one will prefer to reframe the paintings since the frames are not of the period and are, frankly, unattractive (try ghastly). The paintings, however, are quite beautiful and appear to be in excellent shape. Walters was a prolific artist and exhibited numerous works in his lifetime. He first exhibited at the Royal Academy in 1860, and continued to do so most years until his death in 1924. He also exhibited at the British Institute. Most of his works were landscape or coastal vies of the South and East coasts of England, Wales and Holland. He was elected a member of the Royal Academy of British Arts in 1867. He died in London on July 24th, 1924. His works are represented at the Victoria & Albert Museum, British Museum, Port of London Authority, as well as numerous other galleries in England and the US. | |||||||||||||
