MEIJI JAPANESE CLOISONNE BASSE-TAILLE GOLDFISH VASE
Beautiful Japanese basse-taille cloisonné vase from the late Meiji period. Although unmarked this 2.5 inch (6 cm) cabinet vase is likely to be from the studio of Kumeno Teitaro. A similar Kumeno vase appears in the Miller’s antique guide for 2001. Graduating from dark to lighter at the base the transparent green enamel reveals pond plants and reeds chiseled into the stippled surface of the vase. The iridescent goldfish that float among the reeds are masterpieces of the cloisonné crafstmen. Condition appears to be great with no cracks or dings. These wonderful little basse-taille pieces are becoming harder to find. |
