Finely moulded terracotta teapot from the latter part of the 19th Century. On the base is the mark of Bohemian Co. W Schiller and Sons. Formed in about 1885 they ceased trading in 1914. Originally part of the partnership between Gerbing & Schiller a pottery manufactory started at Podmokly, Czechoslovakia in 1829. The teapot is modeled in the style of the famous English company Elers Bros. that produced redwares in the 18 Century. Of course these in turn were imitating the Yixing (I-Hsing) teapots from China. It is 4.75 inches (11.5cms) tall. Condition is good apart from a small chip to the edge of the lid. |
