JAPANESE IMPERIAL YELLOW CLOISONNE VASE
Beautifully decorated Japanese cloisonné vase from the Taisho or early Showa period. On an Imperial yellow background is depicted a trailing branch of magnolia blossoms. The leaves are worked in silver wire and the cloisons of the blossom appear to be gold or gilded. It is 7.25 inches (18.5 cms) tall. There is no damage to the enamel and only minimal pitting from the firing. Unfortunately at some time this piece has been ‘lamped’ as evidenced by a hole drilled in the base. As this hole is not visible the vase remains a lovely, eye-catching piece for a cloisonné or oriental collection. |
