JAPANESE MEIJI SECTIONALLY CARVED BONE AND IVORY OKIMONO
This is a very nicely carved sectional bone figure of a Japanese farmer standing upon a circular ivory base. Created circa 1900 he carries in one hand his tobacco pouch and in the other a basket. Strapped to his back is a bundle of firewood. Signed (not translated) on a red lacquer insert to the base the figure stands 7.25 inches (18 cms) tall. In good condition although there is some loss to the wrapping around the firewood. |
