These are a hand potted pair of square section Japanese Satsuma vases.
The style of the decoration which consists of mums painted on to a honey coloured crackle glaze suggests they were produced in either the Taisho or early Showa period (1912 -1930). The mark to the bases in black paint reads 'Satsuma, ........ zan. It also shows in red the artist/potter's kakihan or seal. Both vases are 5.25 inches (13 cms) tall and in excellent condition.
