A sublime chawan (tea bowl) dating from the middle of the Joseon (or Choson) dynasty (1392-1897).

This is a tamago-de style vessel; the appellation coming from the aspect of the glaze (and sometimes the shape of the bowl), resembling the texture of an egg (tamago, in Japanese).

This kind of chawan were very much in favor with the tea masters and practitioners of the Japanese tea ceremony of the Momoyama period (1573-1615) and early Edo period (1615-1868)...
