A remarkable inro (traditional Japanese case) made during the Meiji period (1868-1912). It is made of lacquer with inlaid gold and decorated in sublime details with motifs of flowers designed in red or dark lacquer, some sprinkled with nacre. The netsuke is decorated in the same fashion as the inro, and the ojime is made of coral.

A splendid vase made during the Meiji period (1868-1912) by a recognized artist named Kano Seiun, born in 1871. Kano Seiun was active from the Meiji period until the beginning of the Showa period (1926-1989). His work was exhibited in Paris in 1900 and is now in the collection of the Tokyo National Museum.

The vase represents a carp swimming under a plant, in low and medium relief. The carp seems to be swimming leisurely towards the furthest branch in a very much alive scene...

Here is an exceptional, beautifully crafted lacquer Suzuri-bako (writing box) dating from the end of the Edo period (1615-1868). The box is decorated with inlaid and sprinkled gold and silver.

This box contains a suzuri (ink stone) a suiteki (water dropper) made of brass and a brush, which still has hair. Its lid is decorated with motifs of bamboo leaves, plum flowers and pine cones; together they form the“shochibukai”, a symbol of happiness...

This is a remarkable Imari porcelain bowl dating from the Edo period (1615-1868). It is not only in impeccable condition, with very minimal enamel wear, its design is rarely seen and the dragon very finely drawn in blue and gold inside the bowl is a fantastic sight...

A wonderful Imari porcelain bowl dating from the end of the Edo period (1615-1868). It is decorated with flowers painted in the rich red and blue colors of Arita ware, underlined with gold, and typical Japanese patterns.

The bowl is in good condition; there are some enamel losses in the red patches on the outer part of the bowl (please see pictures)...

Here is a magnificent Maki-e Lacquer tray dating from the end of the Edo period (1615-1868). It is decorated in sublime details, which show a great level of craftmanship, with Akikusa (fall grass) inlaid in gold, silver, mother of pearl and different tones of red lacquer.

The tray is in excellent condition, except for a minute dent in it (please see picture 10)...

Here is a rare small kyusu (tea pot) dating from the end of the Edo period (1615-1868). It is a soma ware, made in the Mutsu province (current Fukushima prefecture). That tradition was born at the end of the 17th century, patronized by the local lords, the Soma clan.

The clear-celadon glazed kyusu features a hand drawn horse, a favored motif for soma ware. The Fukushima region and especially the area where most remaining soma kilns are located was very hard hit during the March 2011 ear...
