This amazing jar dates from the end of the Edo period (1615-1868). It was made in the ancient Buzen province (current Fukuoka prefecture) near the area where Agano ware was also made, in a town name Takawa, at a kiln called Kaharu. The seal at the base of the jar is a combination of the first characters of those two nouns.

The style of Denko pottery is very much similar to Agano pottery and clearly influenced by the Korean Buncheong tradition...
