Makita Shuun was born in Shizuoka Prefecture in 1917, and studied buddhist sculpture with Mochizuki Hideaki in Yokohama. He is best known for his images of Buddhism and Shinto figures. He notably realized the bell tower and the sculptures for a religious community in Kanagawa Prefecture in 1953. He received a prize for the preservation of traditional crafts at the occasion of his exhibition in Tokyo in 1973. The condition of the koro is excellent. It comes enclosed in a signed wooden box.
