Kondo Yuzo (1902-1985) is one of the best-known Japanese potters of the 20th century. Born in Kyoto, his kiln was in the famous Kiyomizu temple area. In 1977, he became Preserver of Important Intangible Cultural Properties of Japan (Living National Treasure) for the Sometsuke style of pottery. This beautiful cobalt-blue underglaze vase is an elegant example of the refinement of his style, a reflection of the sophistication of Kyoto’s ceramic tradition. Please inquire if you have some questions.
The vase bears the potter’s signature and is in perfect condition.
