Exquisite Glasswork by Lalique: Groupe de Six Moineaux
$2850

Here is one of the best known works by René Lalique called “Groupe de Six Moineaux” (group of six sparrows). René Lalique (1860-1945) was a world acclaimed jewel designer and glasswork maker. His works are still valued as some of the best art nouveau and art déco pieces of those eras.

This particular piece represents six sparrows with, amusingly, grave figures, in a line. In this model, the plinth is thinner than usual, as it was probably adapted to some kind of support. The same piece sold at a Bonhams auction for close to $7000 on November 14, 2012 (lot 131).

The glasswork is in very good condition and signed R. Lalique France. It was made around 1933. As can be seen on picture 7, there is one scratch on on a bird's wing and a minute spot on another's head (I believe both are there from the beginning). There is also a very hard to see little scratch (2mm) on the same bird's torso. However, you have to look hard to see those innocent flaws.

Please let me know if you have some questions.
