Japanese Edo Period Tanto

Japanese smiths have long been known for their skills in producing high quality swords and knives. Here is such a blade. A great looking tanto (short sword) dating from the Edo period (1615-1868) “traditionally” used to slash or stab in close quarters combat.

The tanto comes with a wooden scabbard, which is probably more recent.

Please let me know if you have some questions.

The blade bears some marks of corrosion but cuts very well.
Dimensions: 25 cm (blade 21.5 cm); weight (blade only) 57 g (2 oz)
