A very attractive lacquer inro (traditional Japanese case) dating from the Edo period (1615-1868).
The four compartment inro is decorated with the image of a persimmon still attached to its branch, onto which five birds are sitting. The picture is rendered in fine details and relief with red, brown and gold lacquer. The inro shows marks of its age as some of the lacquer has worn off, and there are several dents on it. Traces of old repair with black lacquer can also be seen on the sides of the box.
The inro comes with a signed netsuke made in the shape of a meditating Buddha, and a coral obidome.
