In a modified baluster shape, well painted and decorated with two dragons chasing a flaming pearl interspersed with florals butterflies, leafy tendrils and lingzhi mushrooms over a sea of waves forming a border around the base, all on a light celadon glaze, the neck rising up to a fully everted and foliated mouth rim with floral decorations, the base unmarked. 19th C. 12 in. high
Condition: No chips, cracks, breaks or hairlines. Drilled as a lamp. Provenance: Acquired in New York City in 1991 as one of a near pair of matching lamps, the second also being listed. Vases of this shape and decoration fall into a small class of Chinese porcelain made during the 19th C that deviated from the more common Rose Canton/Rose Medallion wares. This vase and its counterpart utilize more "Chinese Taste" decoration, including the two dragons and the band of waves along the foot. ALL PHOTOGRAPHS ARE TAKEN IN NATURAL LIGHT WITHOUT ANY COLOR MANIPULATION. Meiping Ltd unconditionally guarantees all of the Chinese art it sells as to age, condition and authenticity and provides a Certificate of Authenticity to every purchaser.
