Guest Book
Standing Sho-Kannon Bosatsu, the hands holding a long-stemmed lotus bud, sculpted in relief from a brown sedimentary stone. Mid-to late-Edo Period ca. 1775. Minor old loss, most notably to the lower-left corner of the base. Distinctive lichen accumulation.

Height: 47.5 cm
Width: 20 cm
Depth: 11 cm

Directly above the figure's head appear three Japanese characters meaning No. 21, implying that this piece originally was part of a set of 33 Kannon Bosatsu (Kannon is believed to have 33 different manifestations). Stone examples of 33 Kannon are uncommon.
