Standing Sho-Kannon Bosatsu, the left hand holding a lotus-bud stem and the right forming the segan-in mudra symbolizing the fulfillment of the Vow made by the historical Buddha to strive for the salvation of all sentient beings, sculpted in relief from a brick-hued igneous stone patinated over time to a dark-gray hue. Clearly dated to the second year of the Kanbun Era (1662), early-Edo Period. Excellent condition, with only very minor old loss. Light lichen accumulation.
