Jizo Bosatsu seated upon a stylized lotus-form base with hands holding a hoju (sacred jewel) and placed centrally on the lap, sculpted figurally from a fine-grained igneous stone of grayish hue. Early-Edo Period ca. 1650. Very minor old loss. Traces of black ink.

Height: 11.3 cm
Width: 7 cm
Depth: 5.7 cm

Showing black-soot patination after centuries of usage as a devotional object displayed inside the butsudan (Buddhist altar) of a private Japanese household, a well-executed, unusually small-scale Jizo stone. Highly collectible.
