Stone lantern hand-sculpted in six pieces, mid-Edo Period ca. 1750. Optimal condition, with minor edge loss. Uniform lichen accumulation. Height 140 cm, Diameter of foundation stone 35 cm. Sculpted from Izumo-ishi, a type of sedimentary stone composed of volcanic ash and traditionally used in the production of Japanese stone lanterns. Extremely uncommon style, in excellent condition despite significant age. A rare opportunity. |
