Stone Lantern Ishi-Doro Garden Statuary Tea Edo 17/18 c
Hexagonal Kasuga-style stone lantern hand-sculpted in six parts from a relatively soft sedimentary stone. Early- to mid-Edo Period ca. 1700. Minor loss to the tip of the sacred jewel, the uppermost element, and partial loss to one of the flanged elements on the roof, visible in the final photograph; otherwise, excellent condition, with overall softening of the lines and contours. Good lichen accumulation.

Height: 135 cm
Diameter of roof element: 50 cm.

A relatively small-scale example of the classic hexagonal Kasuga-style lantern, executed with elegant simplicity and showing good formal balance. A very strong piece.
