Sunken-style stone lantern hand-sculpted in five pieces from a relatively hard igneous stone. Mid- to late-Edo Period ca. 1800. Old loss. Excellent lichen accumulation. Height: 128 cm A relatively small-scale sunken-style stone lantern sculpted with elegant simplicity in a squarely classic style, the firebox apertures in diamonds and squares. For stability, the pedestal can be placed directly into the ground. A handsome piece. |
