Stone Head of Jizo Bosatsu Bodhisattva Kannon Edo 18 c.
Stone head of a figuratively sculpted Jizo Bosatsu. Early- to mid-Edo Period ca. 1700. Excellent condition, the line of cleavage clean enough for vertical display on a flat surface, as shown in the accompanying photos. Dried lichen accumulation.

Height: 12.9 cm
Width: 9.2 cm
Depth: 10.0 cm

Sculpted with elegant simplicity from tuff, a relatively soft volcanic stone, this head originally belonged to a Jizo with a full body height of approximately 90 cm, assuming a 1:6 head/body ratio. The stained-wood display dais is included.
