Seated Jizo Bosatsu figuratively sculpted from a high-quality sandstone, a hoju (sacred jewel) held in both hands. Edo Period ca. 1750. Excellent condition with virtually no loss and no repairs, showing fairly heavy black-soot accumulation. Height: 15.1 cm A brilliantly executed piece abounding in charm and style, this Jizo stone originally served as a devotional object displayed in a home-use altar shrine. Exceedingly uncommon. |
