An antique Chinese lady motif tea chest tin with hasp. This domed trunk style tea chest is 8-7/8" wide and it stands 6" tall. It features a blue and yellow lithographed design and the swing-up brass handle has Victorian style decoration. It also has a brass hasp and eye for a lock and it has a circled DB or BD maker's mark which we haven't identified. A rare and exotic authentic period Art Deco gilt brass and purple glass bead mesh head covering or skullcap hat c1920s. Before Rolling Stone turned into an irrelevant pile of commercial crap over 40 years ago, it was at the vanguard of the "Underground Press" - a crude newspaper devoted to the counterculture, drugs, music, uncensored political and sexual expression and all things Hippie. Fortunately, being Canadian, the Georgia Straight of Vancouver carried on the anarchistic torch for a few years after RS gave it up, giving us a ribald and unfettered underground newspaper sold in the British Columbia area. From r-rated underground comics (the Fabulous Furry Freak Brothers (FFFB) by Gilbert Shelton, Fat Freddie's Cat, and others) to interviews with counterculture icons, this paper is a window on a long-gone world of late 1960s ideals (it started around the same time as RS in 1967). This is a selection of 14 issues from 1973-74 and although not a contiguous run it gives a great look at the era. Included are the following issues:
VOL.7 (1973) - June 14-21 (no issue number, Allen Ginsberg); #306 Aug. 16-23 (Flo & Eddie concert ad, Craig Herb and the Wife comic, FFFB comic); #307 Aug. 23-30 (FFFB, Neil Young, Elton concert ad); #310 Sep. 13-20 (Bruce Lee, Ecohawks Brent Boates comic); #314 Oct. 12-19 (FFFB, tinted paper stock); #315 Oct. 18-25 (Cluck Wilverton comic, stain/tear/yellowing); #319 Nov. 15-22 (Wavy Gravy, FFFB, Leon Russell concert ad); #321 Nov. 29-Dec. 6 (FFFB, Willie Dixon/J.L. Hooker concert ad); #324 Dec. 20-Jan. 3, 1974 (Craig Xmas colour comic, Quicksilver concert ad)
VOL. 8 1974 -#325 (FFFB, Pigpen eulogies); #328 Jan. 24-31 (Harold Hedd comic); #329 Jan. 31-Feb. 7 (FFFB, Nancy Kotex Yossarian comic, Craig Vancouver colour comic spread, ELP concert ad); #331 Feb. 14-21 (Craig comic, G. Shelton Fat Freddy's Cat comic); No number May 2-9 (Allen Ginsberg Craig colour cover, ROBERT CRUMB COMIC, Leslie comics, Ginsberg). For the most part all are in excellent condition with only a bit of raggedness to the lower edges, a bit of yellowing of the old newsprint stock, and a small tear or two on an issue or two. There are no losses, writing, labels, cut out sections, creases or folds and they are very well preserved considering their 40 years of existence. A great chance to own a piece of history. Since there isn't a complete run, we're selling these as a collection only. All items are thoroughly and conservatively graded and all condition issues are noted; all items are vintage or antique and may have slight signs of gentle use. Expedited tracked and insured parcel shipping to the U.S. starts at $21 (other spots may vary, air is higher). Items paid with a credit card will be shipped to confirmed addresses only. We do ship internationally. All of our prices are in $US. PLEASE NOTE: We DO NOT accept PayPal, only VISA and MASTERCARD.

A professionally photographed and framed portrait of the mid-1960s garage/psych band The Kidds, who recorded one 45 rpm single record ("Children in Love") for Nestor Records. This photo was purchased at a local auction in St. Catharines, Ontario (near Niagara Falls), the hometown of the band and many others of the era. The 14-1/2 x 11-1/2" photo is matted in a 20-3/4 x 16-3/4" black painted wood frame and it is initialed on the lower right by the photographer. It is high quality and genuine, and most likely unpublished. There is a documentary on Niagara area bands which features the Kidds, and using that and the invaluable help of the kind people at the Garage Hangover internet site we have a positive identification of the band. Interestingly this photo is NOT shown in the documentary although lots of other items are featured (search for Miil for The Big Story of Small Potatoes documentary). A search will bring you to the full documentary. A must for the garage band archivist, or the band member who doesn't have a copy. This item is in excellent condition with no damage or imperfections at all. All items are thoroughly and conservatively graded and all condition issues are noted; all items are vintage or antique and may have slight signs of gentle use.
